Dietary Curcumin and Health

A polyphenol antioxidant, curcumin is well known in Asia for its anti-inflammatory, antimutagenic, antimicrobial, and anticancer properties. Due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capacity, curcumin is able to exert several therapeutic effects. They include improvement insulin sensitivity, suppression of fat-cell proliferation, reduction of hypertension and inflammation. In addition, the entire family of active compounds within turmeric (curcuminoids) decreases circulating triglycerides and total cholesterol but elevate good cholesterol.
